Mother and Son Killed in Car Accident

Gary police investigate deadly accident, sibling hospitalized

A Crown Point, Ind., woman and her 8-year-old son were killed and another child seriously injured when their car was hit by another vehicle and crashed into a house late Friday, Gary police said today.

The accident happened just before midnight Saturday. A man driving a 2005 Pontiac hit the woman's 2005 Honda Civic at 19th Place and Taft Street; the Honda then hit the house, police said.

The woman, Marilyn Bouler, 39, of the 9400 block of Monroe in Crown Point, and her son, Jonte Barber, of the same address, died at the scene, according to the Lake County coroner's office. Another child in the Honda was airlifted to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Gary police said. That child was not identified.The driver of the Pontiac was treated and released at a nearby hospital and is in police custody, according to Gary police. He had not been charged as of 7:30 this morning.
