An 85-year-old woman and her son were found slain inside a Sycamore home Monday.
Patricia A. Wilson and, Robert J. Wilson, 64, were discovered just before 6 p.m. at a residence in the 16000 block of Old State Road, police said.
The DeKalb County sheriff's office is leading the investigation with multiple neighboring agencies and 20 detectives assisting.
“In order to assist us in this investigation, we are asking citizens to look for the victim’s car that is missing from the home,” said DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan.
The bodies were first found by a family member who immediately called 911 to alert authorities.
Upon arrival, officers found both victims appeared to have suffered “significant blunt force trauma,” according to a statement from the DeKalb County sheriff’s office.
Preliminary investigation found signs that someone had forced their way inside the residence before the deaths, authorities said.

Investigators also found that a 2010 white 4-door Chevrolet Impala with an Illinois license plate of 9030980 was taken from the home.
"Our hearts go out to the family,” Sullivan said. “This is a terrible crime perpetrated on an elderly mother and her son. I can assure you that the DeKalb County Sheriff will do everything possible to find who is responsible for this crime."
The DeKalb County Major Case Squad has been activated to work on the case, which consists of numerous detectives from area jurisdictions.
DeKalb County residents are being urged to remember to use basic safety tips such as locking doors and windows, using outside lighting and remaining aware of their surroundings.
Crime tape was draped around the 10-acre property located on East Old State Road. The home sits in unincorporated Sycamore about two-and-a-half miles outside of town.
Betty Tull has lived up the road from the home for over 50 years.
"Well, it was rather shocking," she said. "You just don't expect something like that to happen.
Police say it’s been years since there's been a homicide here and residents, like Lauranna Gomes, are surprised.
"We don't know what happened and I am concerned because a lot of us don't lock our doors, or anything here, in this town--but I'm sure we will start now," Gomes said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (815) 895-2155.
