DuPage County Named Most Expensive Housing Market in Illinois

It appears a northern Illinois county is home to the most expensive housing market in the state, according to a new study.

DuPage County was named the priciest market for home buyers in Illinois, with a median price of $316,749, a report from financial news site 24/7 Wall Street found.

The report looked at housing markets from every state in the U.S., using median home values from 3,119 counties, per the National Association of Realtors.

According to the study, median mortgage payments in DuPage County sit at $1,280 with a median household income of $81,521. Roughly 3 percent of homes in the county are valued at over $1 million.

But DuPage County doesn’t even come close to the most expensive markets in some states like New York, Massachusetts, California and Virginia, where a typical home is valued at well over $750,000, the report found.

In California, the most expensive market had a median value above $1 million.

Still, in other states like Oklahoma, the most expensive housing market had a median value of just $174,667.

The report notes that of the 50 counties with the most expensive housing markets in their state, close to half also report the state’s highest incomes.

DuPage County is home to cities including Naperville, Aurora, St. Charles, Wheaton, Downers Grove, Oak Brook, Addison, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn and more.
