More Rain on the Way

Temps soar to 70 Tuesday with a side of rain and possible thunderstorms into the evening

"It'll get worse before it gets better." The old saying is about to flip on Chicago weather.

Warm temperatures in the 70s Tuesday afternoon are expected to plunge below average over the next few days, starting with low 40s this evening.

Showers, possible thunderstorms and gusty winds develop and move across the area from northwest to southeast later Tuesday night, according to NBCChicago meteorologist Andy Avalos.

Wind turns north Wednesday morning, ushering in much cooler temps in the low 50s, as well as clouds and occasional rain.

Thursday remains partly cloudy and cool, with a few isolated showers possible. The start of the weekend yields another round of chilly temps and a break from the rain.

Until then, wind increases from the south, sending temps well above average for the season. The average high this time of year is 59, but Chicago should reach low to mid-70s.
