Authorities Investigating Twitter Threat to Moraine Valley Community College

Authorities were questioning a person of interest Monday after an online threat was directed toward students at Moraine Valley Community College.

“Moraine Valley Police and federal authorities are investigating a threatening tweet sent to students last night,” the school tweeted early Monday.

Located in suburban Palos Hills, school officials said that there was “no indication” that the threat was credible and classes would go on as normal with additional security in place.

“The safety and security of the Moraine Valley community is of utmost importance,” the school’s statement continued. “College officials are following the guidance of law enforcement who have determined the threat not to be credible.”

Although the school did not cancel any activity, students on campus said some professors did cancel their individual classes and officials said that faculty will not penalize any students absent on Monday.

A screenshot of the message from the now-suspended Twitter account “@MValleydies” reads, "You and your friends bullied me!!! I can't wait to kill all of you tomorrow!!! You took away my soul I'm taking you guys lives! Me and my AR,” alongside a photo of a gun.

“The incident is isolated, and the threat is not credible,” school officials reiterated Monday, adding that an increased police presence on campus would continue.

Police began questioning the person of interest early Monday, authorities said. It was not clear if charges would be filed and further details were not immediately available.
