Mom Drove Son to Shoot Suspected Snitch: Cops

The mother, her son and an accomplice have been charged with attempted murder, police said

A mother was arrested after she allegedly drove her son and an accomplice to shoot a person they believed was a police informant.

Linda J. Vargas-Jurado, 33, of 1509 N. Kostner in Chicago was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, police said. Her juvenile son and the accomplice, Miguel Torres, 20, also were charged, according to police.

The incident occurred at around 7:45 p.m. Oct. 2 in the 5600 block of Cermak Road in Cicero, authorities said. Vargas-Jurado, her son and Torres were arrested by Cicero police and charged on Oct. 4.

Cicero Police Chief Bernard Harrison said the mother likely thought the person who allegedly told police about a drug-related incident was in Cicero when she drove her son and a friend to shoot the person.

"But they ended up shooting someone else," Harrison said in an issued statement. "That person who was shot is recovering from the attack."

The victim was hit in his chest several times, and witnesses said the juvenile was the shooter, according to authorities. He was then taken to Loretto Hospital in critical condition and is reported to be in good condition now.

Vargas-Jurado will be arraigned in Maywood.
