Body of Missing Island Lake Teen Found in Swamp Near Lake, Police Say

Police said there was no evidence at the scene indicating foul play, but investigators said they hoped to learn more from the autopsy.

The body of a 17-year-old boy reported missing last weekend was found Friday morning submerged in a swampy area near Slocum Lake in Lake County, police said.

Abe Gonzalez of the 3200 block of Poplar Drive was initially reported missing by a family member on Nov. 2, according to police, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said it spent hundreds of man-hours on the search.

Police said Gonzalez was last seen on Nov. 1 at a gathering at a home in the 26700 block of North Morey Street in unincorporated Wauconda. He left the home on foot around midnight, police said, and was described as being highly intoxicated.

A search team of sheriff’s detectives and sheriff’s auxiliary deputies found Gonzalez's body at about 10:45 a.m. on Friday.

An autopsy was scheduled for late Friday afternoon. Police said there was no evidence at the scene indicating foul play, but investigators said they hoped to learn more from the autopsy.
