Chicago-Bound Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Milwaukee

A Milwaukee airport official says all passengers are safe after a United Express plane headed for Chicago made an emergency landing due to a mechanical problem.

Airport spokeswoman Pat Rowe says the United Express flight, operated by United Airlines, departed from Mitchell International Airport about 6 a.m. when the pilots reported mechanical issues and returned to the airport.

SkyWest Flight 5393, operating as United Express, experienced an engine issue, SkyWest said in a statement.

"As a precaution, the crew requested airport vehicles meet the aircraft," SkyWest said. "Mechanics are inspecting the aircraft and we are working to accommodate the 41 passengers on other flights to Chicago."

A photo has since surfaced on social media showing a panel missing on top of one of the engines. The airline could not immediately confirm what the engine issue was.
