One of the most embattled coaches in recent Chicago Bears history is hanging it up for good.

Former offensive coordinator Mike Martz told the Chicago Sun-Times Monday that he's retiring from coaching.

Martz didn't give a reason for his decision except to say "it's time."

Marttz resigned from the Bears after the season amid criticism of his system and the team's ability to adjust following Jay Cutler's injury.

The highlight of Martz's career was leading the high-powered St. Louis Rams offense to a Super Bowl victory in 1999.

He also had stints as head coach with the Rams and Detroit Lions.
