Michelle Obama to Give Commencement Speech at King College Prep

The first lady will also give commencement speeches at Tuskegee University in Alabama and Oberlin College in Ohio

First lady Michelle Obama will give the commencement address at a Chicago high school this spring.

The White House said Tuesday that Obama would speak at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Preparatory High School, known as King College Prep. The school is located in the same neighborhood where the Obamas lived on Chicago's South Side.

King College Prep is also the school that 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton attended before she was shot to death in 2013 following her appearance at the president's inauguration.

Officials say the high school submitted the winning video in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Completion Challenge. The White House says students from the school put together a video featuring a mock episode of the television show "Scandal."

Obama will give the address at the school on the evening of June 9.

The White House also said Tuesday that the first lady would give commencement addresses this year at Tuskegee University in Alabama and Oberlin College in Ohio.
