Michelle Obama Reveals Her Favorite Chicago Deep Dish Pizza

It’s to be expected that Michelle Obama, a South Side native, prefers deep dish to New York-style pizza, but which Chicago restaurant makes her favorite pie?

The former first lady revealed her pick Tuesday at while speaking at an event in New York, People reports. When asked to settle the age-old Windy City vs. Big Apple debate, Obama pulled no punches.

“Chicago deep dish, are you kidding me?" she joked, adding, "Gino’s East, to be precise.”

Gino’s East took kindly to the adoration and tweeted a response: “Thank you @MichelleObama, we think you are the best too!! We’re happy to send you pizzas any time!”

Gino's East placed 14th in a list of the top 101 pizza joints in the country, compiled by food website The Daily Meal last fall. The only Chicago-area establishment that ranked higher was Lou Malnati's Pizzeria, which took seventh place.

Ten other Chicago-area pizzerias came in lower on the list, including Pequod's, Giordano's and Pizzeria Uno.

Obama gave another definitive answer on the topic of food Tuesday, proclaiming that “American food is just better” when comparing White House and Buckingham Palace cuisine.

She did, however, concede that the Brits have an edge when it comes to their rose garden and their tableware.
