Metra UP-NW Service Disrupted After Train Strikes Pedestrian

Service on the Metra Union Pacific Northwest line was halted in both directions early Tuesday after a train struck a pedestrian near Barrington.

Inbound train #606, scheduled to arrive at Chicago's Ogilvie Transportation Center at 7:02 a.m., struck a pedestrian near northwest suburban Barrington just before 6 a.m., Metra said.

Train service was halted for more than an hour, with extensive delays expected and Metra urging commuters to find alternate transportation if possible.

The Chicago Transit Authority was honoring all Metra tickets on the Blue Line from Rosemont to Irving Park until further notice, Metra said.

Northwest Highway was also closed from North Hart Road to West Cuba Road, officials said.
