Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Metra Train in Mount Prospect

A pedestrian died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a train in northwest suburban Mount Prospect, where all trains have now been stopped on the Union Pacific/Northwest line.

Emergency responders were called about 4:53 p.m. after outbound train No. 627, scheduled to arrive in Harvard at 6:05 p.m., struck the pedestrian on the east end of the Mount Prospect train station at 13 E. Northwest Highway, according to the Mount Prospect Fire Department.

Officials confirmed the pedestrian died, but have not released any identifying information.

All trains on the UP/NW line are stopped in the northwest suburbs early Thursday evening.

All outbound movement has been halted, according to Metra, and no timetable was given for restoration, but “extensive” delays are anticipated.

All inbound trains have also been halted at Mount Prospect, and Metra said the “anticipated duration of this delay may be 60-90 minutes.”

Train No. 652, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 5:38 p.m., is operating 49 minutes behind schedule.
