Metra Delays Reported After Train Derailment in Chicago

Major Metra delays are expected after a passenger train derailed near Canal Street in Chicago Friday afternoon.

According to the transit agency's website, a passenger train derailed near Canal Street around 3:30 p.m.

Officials said wheels of the lead car on the train had gone off the track. No passengers were on the train at the time of the derailment. 

Trains on several Metra lines were reporting delays following the derailment. 

Train no. 2138 on the Milwaukee District North Line, scheduled to arrive at Chicago's Union Station just before 3:30 p.m., was stoppped at Western Avenue.

It was not clear how long the delays would last, but Metra expected the derailment would impact rush hour.
