Metra Trains Behind Schedule After Pedestrian Struck Near Oak Lawn

Inbound and outbound trains were halted Thursday night near Oak Lawn after a train fatally struck a pedestrian, according to Metra.

At 8:02 p.m., Metra said, trains were operating 30 to 35 minutes behind schedule.

The person struck was a 22-year-old man, a Metra spokesperson said.

The conductor noticed the person on the tracks at the last minute, attempted to stop but was unable to, Sheets said. The person was pronounced dead at the scene, Oak Lawn Fire and Rescue Chief George Sheets said.
