Metra Trains Collide in Downtown Rail Yard

No passengers were on board at the time, but one employee may have been injured, a spokeswoman for Metra said

Two Metra trains collided in a downtown rail yard Monday morning, possibly injuring an employee, officials said.

The incident happened just before 9 a.m. in a BNSF yard near Roosevelt Road and South Canal Street.

Meg Riley, a spokeswoman for Metra, said two trains were being moved in the yard when one train made contact with another train.

No passengers were on board at the time, but one employee may have been injured, Riley said.

The trains were traveling at 10 mph or slower, officials said, but further details on what happened weren’t immediately known.
