Amtrak, Metra Trains Delayed After Freight Train Hits Pedestrian in Northbrook

Several inbound and outbound trains were delayed

Metra and Amtrak service experienced delays on Monday afternoon after a freight train hit a pedestrian in north suburban Northbrook. 

Outbound and inbound trains on the Milwaukee District North line were halted late in the afternoon, Metra posted on Twitter. Outbound trains experienced delays in the hours following the incident. 

Amtrak said both of its Hiawatha trains 336 and 337, as well as its Empire Builder Train 7, were delayed due to the "freight train trespasser incident." 

A daily case log showed the Cook County Medical Examiner was called to the scene, but further information wasn't available. 

In a seperate incident, a pedestrian died on Wednesday, Aug. 21 after an Amtrak train hit them in Northbrook.
