Parades and Memorial Day events are slated to take place across the Chicago area Monday.
Here's a look at the schedule for many in the city and the suburbs:
8 a.m. – The Beverly Area Planning Association hosts its 2018 Memorial Day Ridge Run and Parade, starting at Ridge Park, 9625 S. Longwood Drive, followed by the parade at 10 a.m. at 110th and Longwood.
10 a.m. - The 17th Ward is holding its 2nd annual South Side Memorial Day Parade to remember the heroes who died while serving in the country's armed forces. On Monday, May 28, 2018, the parade kicks off at 10 a.m. and will wind through Auburn Gresham. Immediately following the parade will be a wreath laying ceremony with 17th Ward Ald. David Moore and poet, playwright and youth worker Useni Eugene Perkins, who is the keynote speaker.
11 a.m. – The Little Village Manuel Perez, Jr., Post 1071 will hold a Memorial Day observance and give a plaque to the Montes family, in honor of Miguel Alejandro Montes, who immigrated to the U.S., served in the military and died in combat. Manuel Perez, Jr. Plaza, 2600 South Kolin Avenue.
Noon – “We Honor You” pop-up art installation honors police officers, firefighters and paramedics for Memorial Day. Until 1 p.m. at Brown Memorial Park, 634 E. 86th St.
9:30 a.m. - The 99th Annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony begins in Arlington Heights. Memorial Day Parade steps off at 9:30 am followed by a Memorial Day Ceremony at Memorial Park at 11 a.m.
10 a.m. – A joint Memorial Day observance starts at the Hoffman Estates Veterans Memorial, 411 W. Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates, before proceeding to a 10:45 a.m. ceremony at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, 202 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg, followed by an indoor service at the church at 11:25 a.m.
10 a.m. – The village of Riverside holds its Memorial Day program at St. Mary Parish Center, 97 Herrick Road in Riverside, followed by an outdoor ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Guthrie Park, just south of the train station at 90 Bloomingbank Road in Riverside.
10 a.m. – The 2018 St. Charles Memorial Day Parade starts at 6th Street and West Main Street in St. Charles.
10 a.m. – Wheaton’s annual Memorial Day Parade kicks off in Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave. in Wheatoi.
10:30 a.m. – Cardinal Blase Cupich celebrates Memorial Day with a Field Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Road in Calumet City.
10:30 a.m. – Plainfield American Legion Marine Post No. 13 hosts its annual Memorial Day Parade starting at Ira Jones Middle School, 15320 S. Wallin Drive in Plainfield.
11 a.m. – Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering hosts the city’s Memorial Day ceremony at Highland Park High School, 444 Vine Ave. in Highland Park, auditorium.
11 a.m. – The village of Skokie holds its 2018 Memorial Day observance at Veterans Park, Lincoln and Cleveland avenues in Skokie.
11:30 a.m. – The Aurora Memorial Day Parade begins with remarks from Mayor Richard Irvin at 20 E. Downer Place in Aurora.
11 a.m. - The Naperville Memorial Day Parade has been canceled “due to excessive heat,” according to a new release sent by city of Naperville spokeswoman Linda LaCloche. The Memorial Day ceremony in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave., will still be held but the time has been moved up to 11 a.m.
1 p.m. – The Des Plaines History Center hosts a Civil War lesson and service project for children ages 5 to 12. Until 3 p.m. at 781 Pearson St. in Des Plaines.
