Possible Measles Exposures Reported in North Suburbs

The infected individual visited numerous businesses while contagious with the virus

Cook County Department of Public Health officials are warning the public of a confirmed case of the measles in a north suburban resident that could have exposed other residents to the disease.

According to officials, the case was confirmed on Mar. 26, and is no longer contagious. The individual involved may have exposed others before realizing that they were sick, according to a press release from the department.

The department provided a list of locations that the patient visited while they were contagious with the disease:

Mar. 17 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Rochelle Zell Jewish High School, Deerfield

Mar. 18 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Full Circle Fitness, 55 Green Bay Road, Glencoe

Mar. 18 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Dunbrook Cleaners and Tailors, Dunbrook Center, Northbrook

Mar. 18 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Bed Bath and Beyond, Deerfield

Mar. 18 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Sunset Foods, 1127 Church Street, Northbrook

Mar. 19 5 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.: Greek Islands Restaurant, 200 South Halsted, Chicago

Mar. 19 7:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.: Nederlander Theater, Chicago

Mar. 21 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.: Home Depot, 655 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield

Mar. 21 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.: Medical Office, 707 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield

 If you were in any of the locations at the listed time, and if you have symptoms of the measles, you are encouraged to contact your health care provider before going to a medical office or emergency department to help protect others from possible infection.

Symptoms of the measles include fever, rash, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.

Measles can cause serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain). It is spread through the air when someone coughs or sneezes.

There is no ongoing risk of transmission at the locations listed.
