Mayor Emanuel Makes Big Bet on Loyola's Elite Eight Showdown

The mayor has put up Chicago style pizza in the wager

After winning some sweet treats for his staff thanks to Loyola’s win over Nevada, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is once again making a food wager as the Ramblers go for a Final Four berth.

Loyola will take on Kansas State in the Elite Eight on Saturday evening, and Emanuel has agreed to the terms of a bet with Overland Park, KS Mayor Carl Gerlach.

If the Ramblers win and advance to their first Final Four since 1963, Emanuel and his staff will receive barbecue ribs from Q39 in Kansas, along with a charitable donation to the Becoming a Man youth program, which is based in Chicago.

If the Wildcats end Loyola’s Cinderella run, Emanuel will send Gerlach and his staff Chicago-style pizza from J.B. Alberto’s, as well as a donation to the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead in Overland.

“Chicago is united behind Sister Jean and this incredible, inspiring Loyola team,” Emanuel said in a statement. “We are looking forward to celebrating the Ramblers’ trip to the Final Four with some Kansas City-style barbeque.”
