Emanuel Orders Review of Travel Reimbursements

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is calling for even more accountability when it comes to how the city uses its money.

The mayor's office announced Monday the City Comptroller will do a full review of travel and mileage reimbursement policies for all departments. The comptroller must turn in a report to the mayor in 30 days.

The review will be followed up with recommendations on areas where money can be saved, similar to what was done after a review of the city's credit card use.

“Every department and sister agency must be diligent and responsible with its stewardship of taxpayer dollars and use all funds in the most effective way possible," said Emanuel in a statement.

The mayor also notified members of his cabinet that travel and mileage reimbursement will be suspended.
