La Grange Marine Gets Big Welcome Home

LCpl. Josh Misiewicz lost both of his legs in a landmine explosion in July

A Marine from suburban La Grange who was injured in Afghanistan got a big welcome home Saturday.

Crowds greeted 23-year-old LCpl. Josh Misiewicz outside his home.

He lost both of his legs in a landmine explosion in July. He's been recuperating at Walter Reed Medical Center but got a temporary discharge to come home for the holidays.

"There's been so many people involved in the community just helping out with these fundraisers and this welcome home. It's just been incredible," he said.

During his tour, a photographer snapped a photo of Misiewicz giving a high-five to an Afghan child. It was posted online and seen as an example of America's good will toward the Afghan people.
