Marcus Kruger Absent as Hawks Training Camp Begins

Kruger had remained unsigned by the Blackhawks until late last week when he signed a one-year deal to break a negotiating stalemate

While a lot of the focus at Chicago Blackhawks training camp has been on players that are present in South Bend, there is one notable absence as center Marcus Kruger has not yet reported to Notre Dame.

There is a good reason for that, however: he hasn’t been able to secure a work visa and is still in Sweden.

“The proper procedures for his visa couldn’t be commenced until after he signed,” Kruger’s agent told ESPN Chicago’s Scott Powers. “We have been working on (it) with the club and he will arrive early next week.”

Kruger had remained unsigned by the Blackhawks until late last week when he signed a one-year deal to break a negotiating stalemate. Kruger had been looking for a long-term deal with the Blackhawks, but thanks to salary cap constraints, the two sides weren’t able to hammer out an extension to keep him in Chicago beyond the coming season.
