Plan Ahead: Chicago Marathon Street Closures

Closures along the marathon route will be enforced from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday

UPDATED: See the Chicago Marathon Street Closures for 2012.

Don't try driving through downtown on Sunday.

Street closures along the Bank of America Chicago Marathon route will begin at 7 a.m., a half hour before the start of the race. The route stretches north to Addison Street west to Damen Avenue and south to 35th Street.

Streets used on the route will close promptly at 7 a.m. and will reopen as soon as all the runners pass through. Marathon organizers expect all streets to reopen by 4 p.m.

The route first takes runners on streets in the Loop, and marathon organizers anticipate these streets will reopen at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Lake Shore Drive and all expressways will remain open throughout the day. For closures in your neighborhood, consult the marathon's street closure brochure.

While organizers have posted anticipated reopening times, the Chicago Police Department will ultimately be responsible for closing and re-opening streets.

Finally, no parking zones along the course will be enforced beginning at 1 a.m. on Sunday.
