Man Tried To Nab Girl Going To School, Police Say

Police Issue Alert For South Side

Police have issued a community alert on the South Side after a large man tried to abduct a young girl who was on her way to school Tuesday morning.

The girl said she was on the 4300 block of South King Drive at about 8:40 Tuesday morning, when a man walked up behind her and pulled her backwards by her jacket, according to a community alert issued by Wentworth Area detectives.

The girl was able to escape the man's grasp and she ran to school. The man, described as a black man between 30 and 35 years old, was between 5 feet, 11 inches and 6 feet, 1 inch tall. He weighed about 300 pounds and had short black hair and a thin mustache, according to the alert.  He was wearing black gym shoes and a black T-shirt with blue jeans.

Police advise community members to accompany children as they walk to and from school, and encourage school-age children to travel in groups. I f anyone sees any suspicious persons in the area, they are asked to call 911.
