EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. -- A Chicago man cut off his own testicles Friday and died after trying to drive himself to a hospital, according to authorities.
The 43-year-old man, whose family asked that he not be named, mutilated himself early Friday morning in his Evergreen Park home, leaving his testicles in the bathroom, police said. He crashed his car around 2:40 a.m. at 95th Street and South Millard Avenue.
The man, who lived in the Wrightwood neighborhood, died around noon Saturday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The man may have suffered from mental illness, police said.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
