Man Wins Lottery Using Family's Birthdays

He plans to use his winnings to buy a bigger house for his family of seven

Talk about being a family man.

A northwest suburban man says he won the lottery by using the numbers of his family’s birthdays.

Prabhakar Gumidyala won $300,000 from a Lucky Day Lotto ticket after matching all five numbers – 7, 10, 11, 12, 21—in an April 28 drawing, lottery officials said.

“I combine our seven birthdays and use them once a week to play Lucky Day Lotto, always hoping to win big someday,” Gumidyala said. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw my numbers on the computer screen. I’m still in shock.”

Originally from India, Gumidyala has been working in the auto industry in Illinois for more than 20 years.

He plans to use his winnings to buy a bigger house for his family, which includes his wife and their five daughters.

Gumidyala purchased his winning ticket from a Citgo in Elgin. The retailer will receive a $3,000 bonus, equal to 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
