Harvey police have made an arrest in the case of a well-known Chicago barber who was shot and killed in front of his five-year-old daughter.
Detectives announced at a press conference Wednesday that the suspected killer, 27-year-old Parry Gosa turned himself into authorities and is now facing murder charges in the death of 26-year-old Michael Carney.
The case was a personal one for the mayor and chief of police in the suburb, as they both knew Carney personally.
“I knew his character. He was a man of integrity,” Police Chief Gregory Thomas said.
Police say that Carney and his girlfriend were with his five-year-old daughter on Oct. 21 when they pulled into a gas station. That is where Gosa allegedly walked up to the vehicle and shot Carney twice in the back of the head.
Somehow, Carney was able to drive his daughter out of harm’s way, and died a short time later.

“He just loved life,” Carney’s mother Michelle said. “He was a great father to his daughter.”
Police describe Gosa as a jealous ex-boyfriend of Carney’s girlfriend.
“This was an individual who was emotional and could not accept that she had moved on with her life,” Thomas said.
At Wednesday’s press conference, Chief Thomas and Michelle Carney both said that the arrest brings at least some closure after the murder, but that nothing will bring him back.
“It’s given my family closure, (but) it’s not going to bring my son back,” she said. “It will help us moving on from this point.”
Gosa is now facing first degree murder charges, and appeared in court Wednseday afternoon. Bail was denied, and he is due back in court Dec. 5.
