A Monday autopsy ruled the death of a man fatally struck by a Blue Line train early Sunday at the Logan Square station an accident.
The man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 53-year-old Perry Major -- fell onto the subway tracks at the Logan Square station in the 2600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue about 1:15 a.m. Sunday.
He was hit by a southbound Blue Line train, Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said. Major was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition, according to Fire Media Affairs. He was later pronounced dead.
Authorities said they don't know what caused Major to fall on the tracks. They do know, however, that he did not contact the third rail because they said the southbound train that hit him forced his body to the inside edge of the tracks and away from the high-voltage rail.
Power to the tracks was temporarily cut in both directions between Western Avenue and Irving Park. A bus shuttle was being used to transport riders through areas affected by the shutdown.
