Man Stabbed While Riding CTA Red Line Train: Police

A man was stabbed during an apparent robbery attempt on a CTA Red Line train early Wednesday, according to Chicago police.

The 25-year-old man was riding on a southbound train near the Argyle stop in the Uptown neighborhood on the city’s North Side at around 2 a.m. when a man he did not know approached him and stabbed him in the stomach, officials said.

Authorities said after stabbing him, the offender announced a robbery by demanding the victim hand over his personal belongings. The man then exited the train in an unknown direction without taking any of the victim’s belongings, according to police.

The victim got off the train at the Argyle stop to ask for help, officials said, and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in stable condition.

Police said they stopped the southbound train five stops away at Belmont to search for evidence and were working with the CTA to obtain surveillance video of the train and platforms.

No one was in custody as authorities continue to investigate.
