A west suburban man was shot to death in Aurora early Saturday.
Bryce M. Stiff, 33, was driving with a 21-year-old man in the passenger seat at about 2:20 a.m. in the 200 block of South LaSalle Street in Aurora when they heard shots ring out, according to a statement from Aurora city spokesman Dan Ferrelli.
A bullet struck Stiff in the shoulder, and he tried to drive to a hospital but struck a Jeep on Lake Street, Ferrelli said. Stiff’s car went over a terrace and came to rest in a parking lot, and the Jeep hit a telephone pole.
Stiff, a Montgomery resident, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead at 2:58 a.m., officials said. An autopsy is pending, but authorities said he appeared to have died of the gunshot wound and not of injuries in the crash.
The Jeep’s driver had to be extricated and suffered injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening, officials said. The 21-year-old was not hurt.
Police did not provide a motive for the shooting but said the attack was not random.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call detectives at (630) 256-5500.
