Man Shot Dead During Altercation in Evanston: Police

A man was fatally shot during an altercation in north suburban Evanston early Monday morning police said.

Just before 3 a.m., authorities said they received a call of shots first on Howard Street near Chicago Avenue.

There, they found a 25-year-old man shot in the head.

Police said the man had been involved in an altercation with the shooter, who fled the scene northbound on foot.

The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Several witnesses were speaking to investigators Monday morning, according to police.

The shooting and police investigation left Clark Street blocked at Howard and closed Howard from Clark to Wolcott. The Chicago Transit Authority reported no. 97 Skokie busses were being rerouted via Howard, Clark, Rogers, Ridge and Howard.
