A man was taken into custody early Friday after authorities said he got stuck inside a chimney while running from police.
The incident took place at around 2 a.m. in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood on the city's South Side, officials said.
The 32-year-old committed a traffic violation then refused to pull his car over for responding officers, according to Chicago police.
He then exited his vehicle and fled on foot, authorities said, scaling a building near the intersection of East 115th Street and South Michigan Avenue. Police said the man started "jumping rooftop to rooftop," at which point he became trapped in a chimney.
"It was actually kind of funny because all you could see really was the top of his head sticking out of there with a little hand, saying, 'help, help, help, help,'" one witness said of the commotion.
"At that point, we waited on the fire department and they came, but, oh man, they had to use the heavy duty tools to get him out of there," he continued.
Firefighters arrived on the scene, extracted him from the chimney and took him to Advocate Christ Medical Center as he was complaining of shortness of breath, according to police. Details on his condition were not immediately available.

The man, whose identity has not been released, remained in police custody and charges were pending, officials said.
