A man was pickpocketed by a group of men working in unison outside of an upscale hotel in downtown Chicago earlier this month, Chicago police confirmed.
The man was outside of the London House hotel at 85 E. Upper Wacker Drive about 8:20 p.m. on June 9 when his wallet was stolen by at least four pickpockets, police said.
George Jordan, a spokesman for the hotel, tells NBC 5 the victim was not a guest at hthe hotel was apparently going to a bar.
Jordan said three black men wearing plain clothes, including baseball hats and Chicago Cubs Kris Bryant jersey, blocked the victim with a bell cart from the hotel. One of the men put a jacket over the victim’s head while another one of the thieves made off with the man’s wallets, Jordan said.
"These guys grabbed a cart, blockaded him, and in 10 seconds had this guy's wallet," Jordan told NBC 5.
Jordan insisted the crime could have happened anywhere had nothing to do specifically with the hotel itself.
Police said no one was in custody Wednesday and Area Central detectives were investigating.
