Man in Serious Condition After Being Struck by Vehicle Fleeing Police

A 23-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck by a stolen vehicle that was fleeing police Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the city's Lincoln Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police. The man was struck near the intersection of Fullerton Avenue and Halsted Street.

The victim was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in serious to critical condition.

The incident was one of a series of events that began with an armed robbery in the 1400 block of North Dayton. Police believe the same robbers may have carjacked a driver in the 1300 block of West Waveland at gunpoint, and when they were spotted on Halsted, police gave chase.

After striking a pedestrian, the carjackers allegedly took another vehicle at gunpoint in the 1500 block of North Talman.

"A lot of these bad guys think when they try to get in their vehicles that we won't give chase, but when they're violent, I think it's our responsibility to try to apprehend them," Superintendent Eddie Johnson said.

While two of the three vehicles taken were recovered, police are still looking for a green 2000 Honda Accord, with front end damage and Wisconsin license plate number 218SPG.

According to police, no one was in custody at this time.
