Man in Custody After River North Stabbing, Police Say

The man allegedly was involved in an earlier fight with the victim, then returned to the neighborhood and stabbed him Monday morning

A man was stabbed Monday after a fight in River North on the Near North Side.

The 37-year-old was stabbed in the back at 2:33 a.m. in the 500 block of North State Street, according to Chicago police. He had been involved in an earlier fight with the suspect, a 36-year-old man, in the 400 block of North State.

The suspect left the area after the initial fight but later came back, followed the victim around the surrounding streets and ultimately stabbed him, police said.

The 37-year-old was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

The other man was taken into custody and brought to the Near North police district for processing, police said. Felony charges are pending.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
