Parolee Had Loaded AK-47 at Belmont CTA Stop: Police

A parolee was charged Sunday with carrying a loaded AK-47 at a North Side CTA stop, according to police.

Jordan Watkins, 29, of the 4600 block of West Adams Street, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a parolee and with being an armed habitual criminal.

Watkins was arrested after officers responded to the Belmont CTA platform in the Lakeview neighborhood about 6:30 a.m. Saturday after a call of a man with a gun, police said.

The Chicago Transit Authority did not immediately respond to request for comment.

“Upon arrival officers observed Watkins matching the given description, then approached and recovered a loaded AK-47 rifle from Watkins,” police said in a news release.

Watkins was scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.
