Man Found Dead, Wife Hospitalized After Crete Home Invasion: Police

Authorities responding Monday to reports of a missing couple discovered a woman injured in a vehicle and her husband dead inside the trunk following a weekend home invasion in unincorporated Crete Township, Illinois.

Two suspects allegedly broke into the couple's home in the 26000 block of South Klemme Road on Sunday evening, police said.

Around 10:25 a.m. on Monday, officials went to the home for a welfare check, police said, after a relative contacted the Sheriff’s Office and said the couple didn't show up to work and weren't picking up their phones.

A 59-year-old woman was found inside a vehicle. She told police her husband was in the trunk.

The woman was later transported to a local area hospital in stable condition, while the 63-year-old man was located and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities reported that the woman told them two masked males had entered the residence Sunday evening for the "purposes of robbing the victims," the report read.

No other information was immediately available. The investigation remains ongoing.
