Woman Faces Charges in Fatal Lawndale Hit-and-Run

The suspect allegedly struck and killed a 51-year-old woman on Saturday morning

A 21-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after she allegedly struck and killed a 51-year-old woman in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday morning.

Dereknesha Brown of Chiacgo is facing felony charges of aggravated DUI in an accident that caused death, as well as four misdemeanor charges including leaving the scene of an accident.

Brown turned herself in to authorities on Saturday morning shortly after the fatal crash, which occurred in the 1600 block of South Homan at approximately 12:49 a.m.

Police say that Brown was driving under the influence when she struck and killed 51-year-old Annie Johnson, who was standing on the street. Police believe that Brown was traveling at a high rate of speed when she struck the victim, and after the crash she fled the scene.

About a half hour later, Brown turned herself in to authorities at the 10th District Police Headquarters.

Brown will appear in bond court on Monday, according to police.
