Man Dies After Car Crashes Into Salt Truck on Far South Side

The man was driving northbound on Avenue O when his vehicle struck the salt truck

A 37-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning when the vehicle he was driving struck the back of a passing salt truck on the city’s Far South Side.

According to police, a salt truck, driven by a 55-year-old man, was driving westbound through the intersection of South Avenue O and 130th Street when his vehicle was struck by a Ford SUV, driven by the 37-year-old man.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the salt truck was taken to Trinity Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

Another vehicle was also involved in the crash, as a 2005 Nissan Altima rear-ended the SUV after it struck the salt truck. Neither occupant of that vehicle was injured, according to police.
