One man was killed and a woman and infant hospitalized from a series of crashes on the city's South Side on Sunday night, authorities said.
It all started around 10:30 p.m. when police spotted a sports utility vehicle driving at a high rate of speed.
Police said they pulled over the SUV in the 6700 block of south Ashland, where three men got out of the vehicle. One of the men then jumped back inside and fled in the SUV. Police followed the SUV southbound on Ashland , where police say the vehicle went through a stoplight in the 7600 block of south Ashland, hitting a sedan.
The sedan was carrying an adult woman and infant and heading westbound on 76th street when it was struck. The SUV then struck a fire hydrant and light pole before coming to stop.
The driver was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where police say he later died.
The woman and infant in the sedan were taken to Holy Cross Hospital with minor injuries.
