A Zion man is accused of stealing a cellphone from a person he met online Friday in north suburban Gurnee.
Marshon D. Knox, 21, was charged with one felony count of armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon, Gurnee police said.
Officers responded about 11:30 a.m. to the 200 block of O’Plaine Road for a reported armed robbery, police said. They learned a person was selling a cellphone through an online marketplace app and met with Knox at a parking lot for an exchange. However, Knox allegedly displayed a handgun, took the phone and ran to a nearby apartment.
Authorities tried making contact at the apartment, but Knox jumped from a second-floor window and ran off, police said. Police and a K9 team caught him and took him into custody. A weapon was recovered during the investigation.
