An Aurora man was charged with assaulting and robbing a man on crutches as well as attempting to kidnap a woman in two alleged crimes, police said.
Ryon E. Lumpkins, 28, of the 1100 block of Terrace Lake Drive in Aurora, faces charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and kidnapping.
Around 12:45 a.m. March 1, Lumpkins, another man and the alleged robbery victim were hanging out at an apartment in the 400 block of Grant Place, Aurora police said in a Facebook post. When the victim, a 50-year-old man on crutches, left, Lumpkins and his accomplice followed him, police said.
Lumpkins and his accomplice followed the victim and beat him with blunt objects, stole the victim’s bag, which contained two phones and some personal documents, and ran back to the apartment, police said.
Less than an hour later, an officer watching the apartment spotted Lumpkins get into a car with two other people and stopped the vehicle. The officer found one of the victim’s cell phones in Lumpkins’s possession, police said.
The officer also noticed that Lumpkins had been stabbed in the back, so Lumpkins was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old woman, was wanted for retail theft in DuPage County and was arrested.
During their investigation, authorities said they tied Lumpkins to an earlier attempted kidnapping at an apartment building on the 900 block of North Avenue.

On Feb. 26, Lumpkins allegedly approached a 30-year-old woman in the apartment building’s laundry room and said he had a knife. He then forced the woman into an apartment, beat her and demanded she perform sexual acts, police said.
The woman—after realizing Lumpkins did not actually have a knife—escaped and called police, but Lumpkins had fled by the time they arrived, police said.
