Man Charged in String of West Side Robberies

Man linked to eight armed robberies, two counts of sexual assaults

A man detectives believe is tied to a string of armed robberies and two sexual assaults on the city's West Side was charged this week.

Darrion Grossley, 22, of the 4000 block of West Maypole was arrested Tuesday and charged with eight counts of armed robbery, two counts of armed criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated assault, Chicago Police said Thursday.

Police said investigators reviewed surveillance footage of two of the robberies to obtain a description of the wanted offender.

At about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Area Four detectives and Harrison District officers observed Grossley, who police say matched the description, in the 4000 block of West Madison. When officers tried to stop Grossley, he ran from them, police said. He was arrested after a short foot chase.

Grossley was found to be in possession of a black ski mask, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
