$100K Bond for Teen Charged in Hit-and-Run That Killed Newlywed Man

Marlon K. Myles, 19, was charged Thursday with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death

A teen charged in the fatal hit-and-run crash that left a newlywed man dead and four others injured took a photo minutes after the crash telling a friend he damaged his car, prosecutors alleged Friday.

Marlon K. Myles, 19, was charged Thursday with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. His bond was set at $100,000.

Prosecutors alleged Myles admitted to being in the crash that killed 26-year-old Westmont resident Abin Mathew, telling authorities he panicked.

The crash, which occurred late Wednesday night in Burr Ridge near Willowbrook, where Mathew was pinned inside a car and four others were injured.

Prosecutors said Myles sent a text message to a friend 25 minutes after the crash, saying he damaged "El Chapo," which is what he called his car. He was arrested about four hours later.

Mathew, a gas station manager, had recently been married according to friends, and was preparing to go back to India to celebrate with a second ceremony in the near future.

"A couple of days ago he was talking about it, and he wanted me to go with him to help pick out some dresses for the wedding," a friend of Mathew told NBC 5. "It never happened."

Investigators said part of Myles' car was found at the scene.

Teen's family said outside court Friday that Myles is a good kid who got scared and made a mistake. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
