Prosecutors: Man Padlocked Pit Bull, Prepped for Fights

A Chicago man was ordered held on $20,000 bail Sunday after he was allegedly preparing his pit bull puppy for dog fighting.

Adontis Hoskins, 19, of the 4900 block of West Gladys Avenue, faces an animal-abuse charge in connection to the alleged cruelty after police saw him riding his bike with the leashed pit bull, who had three large padlocks attached to his metal collar, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Prosecutors alleged that weighting the neck is a reported strategy for strengthening a dog's neck in preparation for dog fighting, the Tribune reported.

Hoskins had not posted bail as of late Sunday, according to the Cook Count Jail website.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday.
