Man Breaks Into Lakeview Apartment, Ties Up 24-Year-Old Woman

Police said he stole a cell phone, car keys and a computer while the victim was restrained

Authorities responded to a home invasion where a 24-year-old woman was tied up inside an apartment in Lakeview Sunday, according to Chicago Police.

Officials said a man entered through the apartment’s back door on the 900 block of West George Street Sunday afternoon.

Police said he stole a cell phone, car keys and a computer while the victim was restrained.

The victim was able to go to a neighbor for help after the intruder left, officials said.

Residents in the Chicago area were surprised to hear of the incident, assuring that not a lot of crime occurs in the neighborhood, especially during broad daylight.

“Why would anyone pick that time of day to do that?” said Rose Tepper, a Lakeview neighbor. “That puts you on your toes a bit more.”

Sally Burke is another neighbor who was upset by the news.

“I actually just called my landlord today to make sure my back door is, both locks work,” said Burke.

“I hope that whoever did this is found and brought to justice because I think that's just horrifying that you would tie someone up.”

Authorities said the victim was not seriously injured.

It is believed that the suspect was in his 40s but a better description was not immediately provided by the police.
