A Chicago man was arrested in suburban Riverside after police allegedly found him passed out at the wheel of a car that was parked on a sidewalk.
33-yaer-old Marshawn Gibbs was arrested by Riverside police at approximately 2:40 a.m. Saturady morning.
A police officer reported seeing Gibbs’ Cadillac parked on a sidewalk on Ogden Avenue, and when he approached the vehicle he allegedly found Gibbs passed out in the driver’s seat with a cup of beer next to him in the car’s cup holder.
When Gibbs was woken up by authorities, he believed he was on Cermak and Sacramento in Chicago, according to the police report. He also had his pants undone and had allegedly spilled alcohol on himself.
Police then conducted a field sobriety test, and the man failed, according to the report.
“Mr. Gibbs was so intoxicated he actually thought he was driving on a roadway rather than on a sidewalk,” Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said in a statement. “His degree of impairment highlights his level of intoxication.”
Gibbs was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, driving with open alcohol, improper lane usage, and having an expired registration on his vehicle.
