Man Arrested, Charged With Murder in Death of Missing Gary Woman

Just hours after authorities confirmed they had found the body of a missing 27-year-old Gary woman, the man accused in her death was arrested and charged with murder, federal officials said.

James McGhee,38, identified by the FBI as a person of interest in the case, was taken into custody on Wednesday around 5:15 p.m. and now faces murder charges in the death of 27-year-old Sidne-Nichole Buchanan.

Authorities say McGhee was taken into custody in Lake County, Indiana by the FBI and Indiana State Police. He will be held at the Lake County Jail pending a hearing, according to authorities.

On Tuesday, authorities found a body, later identified as Buchanan's, in the Thornton Lansing Road Nature Preserve.

Buchanan went missing after a concert in Tinley Park on July 27, according to police. Authorities identified McGhee as a potential person of interest when he appeared in a Facebook Live video that Buchanan posted from the concert.

Earlier this month, the FBI had offered a $10,000 reward for information about Buchanan, who was believed to be the victim of a kidnapping.

“Our investigation has revealed that Sidne was last seen in Illinois but we have evidence that she was in Indiana after that. The presumption is she was taken across state lines against her will until we find evidence to the contrary,” FBI Supervisory Special Agent Mike Peasley said earlier Tuesday.

The office also said a cause and manner of death were pending following an autopsy that was conducted Tuesday.
