Second Man Charged in Fatal Shooting During McHenry Home Invasion

A second suspect has been charged with the shooting death of a man during a home invasion last month in northwest suburban McHenry.

Charles A. Campo, 31, is charged with one count each of first-degree murder, home invasion and residential burglary, all felonies, in connection with the death of Donald P. Jouravleff, according to a statement from the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

About 1 a.m. on May 27, deputies responded to the 1800 block of West Davis Avenue in unincorporated McHenry and found the homeowner, 52-year-old Jouravleff, shot and seriously wounded, the sheriff’s office said. Jouravleff was taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, where he died later that day.

A witness told investigators they saw two masked males enter the home, shoot Jouravleff and steal cash, the sheriff’s office said.

Campo, who lives in McHenry, was taken into custody on Thursday, one day after 25-year-old Jared J. Fox of Wonder Lake was arrested and charged with the killing.

Fox is also facing felony counts of first-degree murder, home invasion and residential burglary, according to the sheriff’s office. He has been ordered held on a $2.5 million bond and his next court date was scheduled for June 21.

Bond for Campo was set at $5 million, the sheriff’s office said. His next court date has not yet been determined.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remained “extremely active” and that police were looking for additional suspects in connection with the home invasion.
